New regulatory body for Complementary and Natural Healthcare |
A new regulatory body has been set up for Complementary and Natural
Healthcare with government backing through the Department of Health and
facilitated by the Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health (FIH).
Early in 2009, the register for practitioners will be opened up and
Massage Therapy has been the first discipline to be accepted thanks to
the very hard work of the GCMT (General Council for Massage Therapy)
that represent your professional associations, making sure that your
wished and standards would be upheld in this new process.
The CNHC’s mission statement is:
“CNHC's mission is to support the use of complementary and natural
healthcare as a uniquely positive, safe and effective experience”
and its key purpose:
“CNHC key purpose is to protect the public by means of a voluntary
register for complementary and natural healthcare practitioners.”
It’s creation will provide a higher level of consumer confidence and
trust which will in turn benefit practitioners. Now that the roles of
regulation and professional associations are separated, there should be
increased clarity for all concerned with Complementary and Natural
Healthcare, whether givers, receivers or referrers. The CNHC vetting
procedures should ensure that consumers can access treatment
confidently and safely and practitioners will have a mechanism to
handle complaints, code of conduct and ethics.
