About the FHT
The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) is the UK and Ireland’s leading professional association for complementary, holistic beauty and sports therapists. Founded in 1962, the FHT has been promoting the highest standards in education and therapy practice for more than 50 years.

What we do
At the FHT, our members’ interests are at the centre of every decision we make and every service we provide. As a not-for-profit organisation – run by therapists, for therapists – members can be sure that every penny of their fees is spent wisely, to support, advance and protect their interests and career progression as professional therapists.

The FHT is governed by an elected Council of members who oversee a permanent team of FHT staff, many of who are also qualified therapists. The Council positions are voluntary and unpaid, and attract senior practitioners and educators from across the therapy industry.

On behalf of our members, we work closely with government-backed authorities in the fields of education, regulation, research, and business skills and enterprise, to help shape and improve the industry. We are also proud to say that many of our members join us in promoting the efficacy and benefits of the therapies they practise, not just to the general public and national and local media, but also to the medical profession, NHS, and other government and official bodies.

A part of the FHT mission has always been to maintain and promote the highest standards in practice and professionalism, which is why we actively support and encourage our members to develop their skills and knowledge. This not only helps the therapist member to reach their full potential, it also greatly benefits their clients, employers and the reputation of our industry as a whole.

Our Accredited Register
In January 2014, the FHT’s Complementary Healthcare Therapist Register was approved as an Accredited Register (AR) by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, under its new Accredited Registers programme.

The Professional Standards Authority is an independent body, accountable to parliament. It promotes the health, safety and well-being of patients, services users and the public by raising standards of regulation and voluntary registration of people working in health and care.

The FHT is the only professional association of complementary therapists with an accredited register.
Both the FHT ,the Professional Standards Authority, and other register holders are working tirelessly to promote the benefits of choosing practitioners listed on Accredited Registers – to the public, major charities, the government, private healthcare insurance providers, and other healthcare organisations – including NHS England, NHS Employers, and NHS Choices.
